#CBSIBOLO List For NCBD 3/13/19

What Is The #CBSIBOLO List?

The Bolo List was created, initially, as an Instagram exclusive piece of content I dubbed comics cliff notes. A cheat sheet of sorts, the purpose of the Bolo list is to give CBSI Nation the most up to date information as LCS doors open on NCBD.

The Bolo list is not a list of books you should buy or books that will rise in value.  It’s simply a reporting of what we are seeing in social media response and chatter, talk within our community, initial ebay sales, as well as communication with retailers and posted online spoilers.

Similarly,  every 1st appearance in a given week may not be covered. We only list first appearances that are confirmed first hand or by multiple reputable sources PRIOR to NCBD. No delentiation will be made for full vs. Cameo Appearance as it is for the market to decide and that can not be done until after the books have hit on release day.

The Bolo List is ⅓ of CBSI’s NCBD attack with Simpleman’s Weekly Picks and The Wednesday One. I am very happy to be bringing the Bolo List to ComicBookInvest.Com and all our readers. Be sure to follow us on IG (@comicbookinvestcbsi) for other Exclusive CBSI BOLO content.

Matteo Scalera

Matteo Scalera is a cover artist on the rise. This weeks TMNT variant will do nothing but continue to solidify that.  We have seen this kind of accent over the years in the secondary market. Scalera is one of a number of artists sitting in that second tier waiting to bust through to heavyweight level such as JSC, AH, Artgerm, or Alex Ross.  One smart move for speculators is to get ahead of the curve and seek out dirt cheap early variants and keys by artists poised to break out.

A few for Scalera to keep your eye out for are:

  • Black Science #1 Image
  • Batman & Two Face #28 1:25 Steampunk Variant
  • Deathstroke (2014) #4 1:25 Variant
  • Justice League #49 New 52 Batman Vs. Superman Variant
  • Red Hood & The Outlaws (Rebirth) #6
  • The Crow : Memento Mori 1:10 Incentive
  • Hawkman #5 B DC Cover B

Doctor Fate

Ben C has a great Spec Alert on the site if you haven’t checked out is a must read.  With rumors swirling of a Doctor Fate movie or Fate showing up in a Hawkman movie, copies of Fate keys have flown off shelves.  One book I expect to see in long boxes is the 2015 New 52 Doctor Fate #1 Cover A. I have seen this book in dollar bins over the last year in quantity.  Whether these rumors pan out as reported or not is irrelevant. The point is as DC revamps their cinematic universe, it would be wise for speculators to get the jump especially at $1-3 per copy.

The Grim Knight

This week sees the debut of Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV Grim Knight spawning out of the Batman Who Laughs series.  With the BWL’s series only being a few issues in, this is clearly a calculated move by DC and Snyder. This leads me to believe we could see some staying power for this character.  If his popularity is even a fraction of that of BWL, then we should be grabbing up any and all remaining BWL #1’s (his 1st Appearance) for cover price. I know there is a large print run on #1 but I don’t believe it will be very long before this is a $10-$15 back issue.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Buffy has some rabid fans who are clamoring for the character to return in some form via movie or TV show.  The new Boom! Series sees #1 go to a 3rd print and #2 feature a first appearance and see some heat.

It may be wise to look for these hard to find Buffy keys:

  • Dark Horse Presents 98 Annual 1st Buffy The Vampire Slayer
  • Dark Horse Presents #141 1st TV Version of Buffy The Vampire Slayer
  • Buffy The Vampire Slayer #1 1998 1st Solo Series

These may be sitting undervalued and under appreciated in your LCS long boxes.  So BOLO for these Dark Horse keys!

Good Luck CBSI Wednesday Warriors!
