Dollar Bin Digging 63

Welcome back to this week’s edition of Dollar Bin Digging. This week, I thought I would try out something new and open with a short introduction.

So back in 1996, in conjunction with the Big 2 publisher’s long-awaited crossover event, DC vs. Marvel, Amalgam Comics released a series of one-shots combining characters from the Marvel Universe and DC Universe. For those who have trouble with pronunciation of odd words, it’s pronounced Amalgam (uh·mal·gm). In the continuity of the event itself, all of these issues (including the 12 issues released in 1997) took place between issues #3 and #4 of the main event.

The first 12 Amalgam titles were released the same week in the spring of 1996, temporarily replacing both publishers’ regular releases. 6 issues were released by each publisher featuring art and stories by their own talent.

The Amalgam Age of Comics: The DC Comics Collection

These issues combined some of the most popular DC and Marvel characters together. It was a fun idea, and these books may not really sell for much, but they are fun pick-ups for a buck if you haven’t seen them before.

Most books are only a buck or two each at best; with sets pretty cheap. The TPB collection actually sells pretty well considering a $12.95 cover.

Recent Sales Data:

CGC 9.8 Legends of Dark Claw – $60.00 on 2/11, Raw – $2.24 on 11/17
Complete 12 issue set – $23.89 on 9/16
DC TPB – $35.00 on 11/19

The Amalgam Age of Comics: The Marvel Comics Collection

Again, combining popular Marvel and DC characters together, this time released by the Marvel pen of creators.

Also, these are only a buck or two at best and the TPB collection is the key find if you track one down. There were 12 more issues released the next year, but most retread this same ground.

Recent Sales Data:

CGC 9.8 SS Speed Demon – $150.00 on 10/13/18, Raw – $1.50 on 11/12
Complete 24 issue set – $35.00 on 11/14
Marvel TPB – $47.00 on 11/19
