Failures from the Field
Hello my fellow agents.
Life in the field can be rough. You find yourself in the right place at the right time and still manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
The truth is I rarely grab a tpb on spec. At times though I see a book with just a few listings that is selling a little above retail and I am tempted to buy it. Usually, I just pass them by and keep searching for what I know will sell.
Here are three book that I have passed on this year.
I could have snagged this one for $8. I thought that the black on black cover popped and well it’s a Batman trade! Why not purchase it? I didn’t and I regret it.
This collection from Batman #65, 86, 112, 113, 134, 156 and 162, Detective Comics #215, 235, 247 and 267, and World’s Finest #89 are the stories that inspired Batman R.I.P.
This one frustrates me so much. I had two chances to purchase the first edition (chrome title) of the Infinity Gauntlet TPB. My reasoning was sound. It’s the first reprinting of Infinity Gauntlet. The story arc is being used by the MCU right now. The cover is unique and distinctive from its reprints. So many reasons to buy, but I had to be a cheapskate. In my defense the book wasn’t going for much at the time and the cover is ugly.
The last three sales of $36, $49, $120 show a definite uptrend. Although, that last price may prove to be an outlier.
Hot book alert!
I noticed one sale of this book about a month ago. I passed on it because I don’t know anything about Angel and Faith. Later that week I saw the whole run at my favorite used book store. I thought about checking prices again, but something else must of caught my eye. I missed out, big time!
Angel and Faith TPB volume 5 must have been under-printed. It is selling consistently for $100+. It contains Angel and Faith Season 10 #21-25. The fans must really want it, because the are paying for it.
That all for this week…just kidding I mentioned that I found a TPB that was going to sell. I wanted you to guess what it was. You guessed it, but I failed again. It hasn’t sold. Oh well, I’ll leave it up until it does.
The book is The Question volume 3. Commenter Shines guessed it first followed by moonstroke. Well done! If you’re ever in Nashville, let me know I’ll buy you lunch.
Thank you all for your comments and readership. I try to bring you solid information that can help in the field. Digging and flipping seems to get harder everyday.
Until next time, be careful out there.
