Punisher Coming to Netflix Daredevil
This is big news ladies and gentlemen. Marvel Studios and Netflix have just announced Jon Bernthal, “The Walking Dead”, will be dealing out a lot of punishment in season two of “Daredevil.” If you couldn’t guess Bernthal will be playing Frank Castle, better known as the Punisher. He famously played Rick Grimes best friend turned enemy on the hit show “The Walking Dead.”
Speaking with Marvel.com Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television, said, “Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences.” Loeb couldn’t have said it better, Bernthal brings a rare intensity to the scene that could lend itself ideally as the Punisher.
Loeb also talked about the effect bringing Frank Castle on to “Daredevil” will have on Matt Murdock saying, “Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”
Does this mean The Defenders will unite sooner rather than later? Either way it is worth noting that The Punisher is being put on Daredevil and NOT getting his own show… yet. With recent announcements of a Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage getting their own shows it’s definitely a surprise, considering the Punisher is a fan favorite and has better name recognition than either of the other three. Maybe they are going to use Castle as a way to bridge all the shows in the lead up to the Defenders.
Either way they do it, it’s going to be awesome to see the Punisher on screen again.
