The Day After Wednesday for 10/20/2017
Want to know which books from yesterday’s new deliveries are already heating up and which ones are cooling? Here’s a “Day After” list that we hope will help! This isn’t a reflection on the quality, collectability or long term potential of recently released books. This is based on today’s market price for books that came out on Wednesday, 10/18/17. They could still be at your shop.
INFERNOCT #1 (SCOUT) 1:10 VARIANT – The 1:10 variant for Scout’s new horror comic is selling well at $50 ($60 for a 1:10, 1st print and ashcan set). What’s surprising is that there’s also a NYCC variant that seems to be harder to find and only selling for $20. The aren’t many copies left of the 1:10, ashcan or NYCC variant. Seeing that there’s no current flood, it could actually hold and probably even increase.
KID LOBOTOMY #1 1:10 GOLD FOIL RECALLED VARIANT (IDW/ BLACK CROWN) – As a fan of recalled comics, I grabbed two copies of this at my LCS. Due to some non-obvious issue with how the foil printed, stores were asked to rip off the cover and send them back to the publisher. Seeing that this news came out mid-Wednesday, I’m sure most copies went into the hands of Wednesday warriors. This saw a height of $60 and has since settled to $40. That’s still great for a 1:10. With that said, sales are slow. There are about 16 currently listed and auctions are leaning towards $30…. which, again, is still decent. Recalled comics have a history of getting heat and then dropping. It’ll do fine over time as recalled/error collectors love hunting these down.
MIGHTY THOR #700 ZDARSKY ERROR MISPRINT (MARVEL) – Two error books this week! These were printed with the wrong back cover for Unknown Comics’ Spider-Gwen #25 store variant. Sales are all over the place for this. If you search for Error, you can see a bunch of high sales from a height of $90 and then several between $24 and $60. However, a search for Zdarsky or “How to” shows steady sales at $22 shipped. There was no recall notice, so that price should stay around $15-$20.
MIGHTY THOR #700 HUGHES 1:100 VARIANT (MARVEL) – Opinions are all over the place for this variant. Personally, I love it… but not enough to buy it at $150. On Wednesday, undercutters dragged this down a little to $150. It showed signs of dropping more but then bounced back to a very steady $200-$175 book. There’s about 30 copies currently listed. The price might drop a little but they won’t go below $150. What’s the long term potential? Iffy. Hela’s appearance in Thor: Ragnarok is driving most of the attention on this and can easily fall after interest dips post release. Also, there’s always a good chance for a book to fall when you buy into it over ratio. BUT, if you’re going gamble, Hughes is one of the safest long-term bets.
Z NATION #6 (OF 6) MICHELANGELO PARRILLO VIRGIN VARIANT (DYNAMITE) – This Parrillo virgin variant recently sold for $63 shipped. These have been super hard to find and the last issue has to be the hardest. The other Parrillo virgin issues are doing great and selling consistently for $50. The only exception is the #2 George Washington variant, which is selling for $100.
VENOMVERSE #1 2ND PRINT (MARVEL) – The white background really pops on this 2nd print. It’s selling for $12 shipped ($6 and $6 shipping). I like it and hope that I can still find one in store.
ANIMOSITY EVOLUTION #1 (AFTERSHOCK)
ARCHIE AND ME COMICS DIGEST #1 (ARCHIE)
BATMAN THE DROWNED #1 (METAL) (DC)
DEADPOOL VS OLD MAN LOGAN #1 (OF 5) (MARVEL)
KONG GODS OF SKULL ISLAND ONESHOT #1 (BOOM!)
MAESTROS #1 (IMAGE) – The gold foil is selling for $10, which is probably what stores are selling them for.
OPTIMUS PRIME FIRST STRIKE #1 (IDW)
ROM FIRST STRIKE #1 (IDW)
RUGRATS #1 (BOOM) – The 1:25 had some potential as it saw a sale for $35 on Tuesday. It’s only sold a few since that sale at around $12-15.
SHERLOCK FRANKENSTEIN & LEGION OF EVIL #1 (OF 4) (DARK HORSE)
TORCHWOOD THE CULLING #1 (OF 4) (TITAN)
