The DC Wants Your Money One

wednesdayThe DC “squeeze your wallet” initiative starts this week with multiple events running in parallel. I normally avoid DC events since Infinite Crisis (I bought ALL of the tie-ins, it made sense at the time, lesson learned … #sad), but I’m all in with Metal. Which means two titles a week for the next couple of months (counting tie-ins and one-shots). This week: Metal #2 and Teen Titans #12 (where I am told we will start seeing some of the new villains).

There are also a bunch of good looking #2’s coming out, but there’s already too much going on below: Mister Miracle #2, Venomverse #2 and Mech Cadet Yu #2 will come home!

Action Comics #987 Lenticular Variant

Not everything’s Metal at DC! There’s also The OZ Effect, in which we learn Oz’s identity. I have ignored this until today, but I will bite.

Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #14 Karmome Shirahama Variant

Fun little cover by Shirahama with an alternative Gotham City Sirens. Just read the preview pages (with Barbara playing Oracle to Batman and company) and it seems a lot more fun than I expected.

Supergirl #13 Artgerm Variant

Another spectacular cover by Artgerm, featuring Supergirl and a cat … If this cover’s not successful, then nothing ever will.

Wonder Woman #30 Jenny Frison Variant

Wonder Woman goes patriotic in this beautiful Frison cover.

 Sheena #1 J. Scott Campbell 1:50 & Ryan Sook 1:40 Virgin Variants

Not much to say here, but I prefer Sook’s. Looking at the larger picture, though, the Dave Stevens covers will never be topped.

The Realm #1

New Image #1, which seems to be getting some interest. Could this be the new Seven to Eternity?

All-New Wolverine #24

Seems like this series keeps doing well and this issue has another Yu cover where Wolverine looks savage.

Generations: All-New Wolverine / Wolverine Francesco Mattina 2nd Printing Variant

Another week, another Generations Mattina 2nd Printing. This one’s pretty good, isn’t it?

Secret Empire: Omega 1:100 Michael Turner Sketch Variant

Turner’s work keeps coming back and I still haven’t figured out if that’s a good thing or it’s taking things too far. In any case, this is a beautiful Captain America sketch.

Sink #1

Clowns and horror! Perfect timing with It in the cinemas right now. Written by And then Emily was gone‘s John Lees, which makes it a must-buy.

Harley Quinn 25th Anniversary Terry Dodson Variant

Zdarsky writing Harley Quinn is the main reason why I’m interested in this. Remember that this comes with more than a few store exclusives.

Venomized (yawn) Variants

Swipe of the Week

I know that every time Udon puts out a tribute cover it’s featured here, but they’re brilliant. They put so much care into every single piece of the cover design … More like this, please!

That’s it for this week. What would you buy? There can be only one!
