The Endings & Beginnings One

wednesday

June’s here, so it’s time for Marvel’s Mary Jane variants (which I am not going to mention in these articles, that’s why I did this)! Also, we still have a Spawn Variant coming out this week (Injection #13) … With that out of the way, I have a couple of questions for you: does a Mighty Mouse #1 justify 11 variant covers? Is everybody going to keep reusing old covers (Ash vs Army of Darkness #0 JSC Variant) ? Do you feel like giving up comics at all? Let us know below!!!

The Good

Bulletproof Coffin: The 1000 Yard Stare

The BC is back for a one-shot and I, for one, am really looking forward to take another meta-trip with Hine, Kane, Destroyovski and whoever else is driving this crazy bus.

Drifter #19 Ben Caldwell Variant

Last issue of Brandon and Klein’s amazing series and it has a beautiful Caldwell variant to make it all better.

Reborn #6

Millar and Capullo bring an end to their successful mini-series. This one has the usual 1:100 sketch variant but it’s a mini. Will it have legs? It would have to be a great ending for people to retain interest.

Spider-Man / Deadpool #18

Last issue by Kelly and McGuinness (in their arc or forever?), so expect a couple of laughs and some darkness as Spider-Man and Deadpool fight each other.

Babyteeth #1 Elizabeth Torque Cover

Can Donny Cates do wrong? Is he the second coming of Jason Aaron? This series seems to be crazy enough to reply to both questions … Can’t wait to read this one!!!

Street Fighter vs Darkstalkers #2 Warren Louw Variant

Warren Louw is an incredible artist. I think this is his, what, third cover ever? You have to wonder where he would be if he did a bit more of comic work, but he probably is getting paid a lot better outside of comics.

The Dark

Last issue of a series that was way more fun than I initially gave it credit for. I actually started buying it when the third issue hit because I didn’t think it was going to be any good and it proved me wrong. Other things that proved me wrong include Deadpool: Bad Blood OGN, which was really really bad and I am really sorry for ever recommending it, but I digress … The mini-comics alone have been a lot of fun, but the main story is pretty good too.

So the last issue comes with its usual variants, except that the 1:100 is by Quitely and the Frank Miller cover is a 1:1 Superman cover to complement the other Kubert / Miller 1:1 Batman cover. Jim Lee’s will be a 1:500, because DC wants those extra orders.

This is more of a PSA than anything else, but as this will be the last time we talk about DKIII in this column, I thought I would share a piece of info I just found out about. A few months back, Rafael Grampa announced he had done a cover for DKIII #6 and it has taken me until last weekend to figure out which one it was. Turns out it was the ECCC variant, which nobody on ebay sold with his name in the description. So if you are interested in it, and it’s an amazing cover, look it up by looking for “dark knight master race eccc” instead of “dark knight master right grampa” … Don’t know, thought someone might be in the same spot.

The Swipey

I think that Darth Vader will be the clear winner of the week, but how can you say no to a Spaceknight in love???

Edited to add:

I should probably mention that Batman #24 has a lot going for it, but I just don’t care too much about it. It’s selling out though, so make sure that you get it if you want to.

Also, I thought this was coming out later this month, but it came out today and it looks awesome:

Enjoy your comics, everyone!!!
