The Indie #1 One

Great week with lots of indie series debuting, which I thought I would spotlight as some of them look really good. Also in the menu, Marvel vs Capcom variants are go!!!

Superman #28 Jorge Jimenez Variant

Jorge Jimenez has been doing some amazing work on the Superman variants. This is just another example.

Darth Vader #4 Rafael Albuquerque 1:25 Variant

Darth Vader’s one of my favorite designs ever, so when you get a comic superstar to draw it the result is often amazing.

Generations: Banner Hulk & Totally Awesome Hulk 1 Alex Ross 1:50 Connecting Variant

Marvel’s next big thing is here! The set of Alex Ross connecting covers should do well no matter what’s inside.

Galaktikon #1

Albatross puts out a new #1 (and also Hillbilly #7) so keep in mind how well their other series did. It will be interesting to see Steve Mannion outside of his pin-upey comfort zone.

Robotech #1 Artgerm Variant

If Artgerm has new work out you will probably read about it here. It’s also got the nostalgia factor going with it and creators with their fair share of followers, so watch out for this one.

Spiritus #1

Vault Comics, Tim Daniel and Michael Kennedy bring us a story about a Federal Marshal pursuing a robot controlled by a convict. If the art’s anything like the awesome cover, I am in!

Star Trek: Waypoint #6 Tom Whalen Cover

Keith didn’t mention it yesterday, so I thought I would remind all of you Whalen fans that this is coming out today.

Ghost Station Zero #1

And the reason why he didn’t mention it is that he found this issue’s variant cover more interesting. Antony Johnston brings his Atomic Blonde back, but this time there will be a lot more people interested.

Lark’s Killer #1

Bill Willingham is back doing real world meets fantasy. Known for his world building, if this is given enough time, it might be really interesting.

Dead of Winter #1

Adapted from an apparently successful table top game, here’s the story of a dog in a post-apocalyptic zombie-infected world. If it were any other publisher I wouldn’t even give this a second thought, but it’s Oni, so color me curious.

Marvel vs Capcom Variants

I have tried to keep variant sets away from this article, but Marvel vs Capcom holds a special place in my heart, so I am going to be listing the covers here. Not all of them are hits, but All-New Guardians of the Galaxy #7, Generations: Banner Hulk & Totally Awesome Hulk and Spider-Man #19 are very pretty.

Cover of the Week

Another new series starts this week: Boom’s Mech Cadet Yu #1 by Greg Pak and Takeshi Miyazawa (creators of Amadeus Cho). Even though the premise might sound familiar (robot and kid bond), Pak has added a twist (the kid’s not the kind of kid you would expect) and, in any case, you should probably give a chance to anything with this creative team. Sonny Liew’s variant is my favorite cover this week. The contrast between the idealized and real worlds works really well!

That’s it for this week. What would you buy? There can be only one!
