The Looney One

DC launch their summer “event” (seems to be the continuation of Snyder’s Batman run that DC saw an event in), Looney Tunes and the DCU cross over, MJ keeps interviewing for a superhero job, … Oh, yes, there’s still a Spawn variant coming out (Manifest Destiny #29). Light week for me, but there’s some interesting stuff …

Dark Days: The Forge

Scott Snyder starts his DC event with The Forge and an all-star roster of artists. It will have a massive print run, but it’s mandatory reading if you are into DC.

Wonder Woman #24 Jenny Frison Variant

It’s no secret that Frison has been doing awesome work since she took over from Frank Cho, but this one seems to be getting extra attention.

Amazing Spider-Man: Renew your Vows #8 Clayton Crain 1:25 Variant

Marvel has the Mary Jane Variant Month going on, but here is a MJ cover that comes out in the same month, but is not part of the MJ Month set because Marvel.

Defenders #1 David Mack 1:25 Variant

As we await the Netflix series, Marvel tries to relaunch the series yet again. Will the connection to the TV series help?

Mindbender #2 Francesco Francavilla Cover

The first issue sold out fast and this will sell out even faster. If the series is a hit, it will also be a lot harder to find because of the 2nd issue dropoff.

Betty & Veronica #3 Bengal Cover

Last issue of Adam Hughes’ B&V and when it came time to choose, I went for the Bengal variant because I didn’t really like Hughes Team Betty and Team Veronica covers. Was I the only one?

X-Men Blue #5

If you are thinking “Ever since Wolverine died I can’t get enough of Wolverine-like characters” you are in luck … Here comes the Ultimate Son!!! The countdown to Wolverineverse starts now!!!

Planet of the Apes / Green Lantern #5 Julian Totino Tedesco 1:10 Variant

Great cover that actually looks like a movie poster and the series has been a lot of fun so far. Tedesco is one of the kings of covers these days.

All-New Wolverine #21 Leonard Kirk 1:10 and Dan Mora 1:25 Variants

The series continues to be successful, so here come a couple more variants. Low ratio, so they should be relatively easy to find, but don’t wait too much (or wait a lot till prices eventually come down)!

Crazy Crossovers of the Week

It’s time for the Looney Tunes to crossover with the DC universe once again. For anyone keeping track, we just had the Hanna-Barbera specials and don’t forget the ongoing Scooby Doo Team-Up. Can a Hanna-Barbera / Scooby Doo / Looney Tunes / DC crossover be far behind? Something a bit like Roger Rabbit? Marvel, what are you waiting for? Disney / Star Wars / Marvel crossover now!!!

This week’s specials’ cartoony covers are so much better than the serious ones …

Legion of Super-Heroes / Bugs Bunny Ty Templeton Cover Martian Manhunter / Marvin the Martian Stephen DeStefano Cover

Revamp of the Week

I am heavily getting into Batman Silver Age these days, so seeing this cover made me really happy. The Terrible Trio’s back, and even if they are too young (how much scarier is an adult wearing a suit and tie instead?), it might be worth a look!

Gotham Academy: Second Semester #10 Detective Comics #253

Swipes of the Week

Two cool swipes this week … Old Man Logan #25 (beginning of the Brisson / Deodato run) pits Old Man Logan versus the Maestro and, of course, has to pay homage to Hulk #181. Tributes to 181 seem to do really well, so watch out for that. If you are wondering why Deodato didn’t go for that homage is because he had already done if for one of the Secret Wars #1 variants. I guess Marvel could have re-used it and people wouldn’t have noticed …

Old Man Logan #25 Tom Grummett 1:10 Variant Secret Wars #1 Mike Deodato Comic Con Box Exclusive

And if you think I am not going to mention the PotA / GL homage variant, you don’t know me very well. Here it is in all its 80’s glory …

Planet of the Apes / Green Lantern #5 Paul Rivoche 1:20 Variant Green Lantern #127

That’s it for this week. What would you buy? There can be only one!
