The Pink Signature One

wednesday

Weird week, as I was expecting a bunch of awesome reads but had to dig hard to come up with interesting comics to look out for. I mean, if you look at Midtown, they seem to be selling out of Fruit Ninja #1 and the Yoga Hosers reprint but I wouldn’t suggest buying them as I believe they will be worth the trouble. So, not the best week, but still, some stuff to keep us entertained!

Generations: Jean Grey / Phoenix Francesco Mattina 2nd Print Variant

We still got no idea on whether the Mattina set will set the world on fire or not, but they seem to be selling steadily. The covers are pretty nice and I am getting them as I ignored all the first printings.

Doom Patrol #8 J. O’Barr Variant

Really enjoyed last issue (Allred’s fill-in) but Derington has been knocking this out of the park every single issue. The reason to include this this week, though, is the rare treat of a new J. O’Barr cover. Young Animal seems to be attracting a lot of interesting talent.

Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Captain Phasma #1 Mark Brooks 1:100 Variant

There’s also a 1:200 B&W variant but this looks so much better … The countdown’s on for The Last Jedi and Captain Phasma will hopefully have more screen time.

Star Wars Adventures #1 Chris Samnee 1:50 Variant

Don’t forget that IDW starts publishing their all ages Star Wars book. This one comes with a 1:50 by Samnee which looks pretty awesome. Retailers had to order 50 copies of #1 AND #2 to get it (which makes #2 fully returnable) but who knows?

Venomverse #1 Todd McFarlane 1:2000 Variant

Venomverse is here and it comes with its share of variant covers. There’s the 1:1000 color version of this too, so if you can find them (ha!) cheap (haha!), count yourself lucky. I am personally getting the connecting Crain covers because they are not ratio and look pretty awesome.

Venomverse: War Stories

Weirdly enough, there’s no Venomverse #1 Mattina cover, so here’s where you can get your dose (and look out below for the Venomized Magneto cover). Short stories with more venomized characters sounds good to me!

Lazaretto #1

Interesting premise from a company that does a lot of things right. Could translate really well to TV.

Injustice 2 #9

Really loved Keown’s work in the 90s, but lately his covers have been a bit all over the place. This cover seems to be him back at the top of his game. There’s something about Batman that brings out the best of some artists …

Walking Dead New Character (and Gimmick) Alert!

No idea how this will work out in the long term, but, you know the drill, people go crazy for WD first appearances:

Common sense says that the Adlard cover (featuring the new character in all her glory) would do better than the order-as-much-as-you-want Lorenzo de Felici variant, but we don’t really know how retailers ordered them. Also, there’s a twist! There seems to be a ratio variant (1:10?) to the de Felici cover, one where the signature comes in pink and rumored to have extra story pages.

Venomized Villains

If, for some strange reason, you haven’t had enough Venom variants, Marvel’s got you covered with another set of Venomized characters, villains this time. You just know this will not end until we get a Venomized Batroc mini … In any case, these are the ones coming out this week. I kinda like the Mattina and the McGuinness Itsy-Bitsy ones, and even if it’s something against all my principles, I believe a Venomized Omega Red makes a lot of sense.

Swipe of the Week

I am not sure if this cover is a tribute to a specific cover or just a cover that ticks all the boxes typical of the Golden Age crazy cover tradition. If you happen to know, please let us know below!

Thanks to highgrade60s for pointing out this was a swipe of Terrific Comics #5!!!

That’s it for this week. What would you buy? There can be only one!
