The Wednesday One 01/16/19

Welcome to the night before Wednesday One! 01/16/19

This week is going to be expensive, there is a lot of everything so pick your poison. Fun for the whole family as it were. Let’s see what is cooking.

Catwoman Vol 5 #7 Cover B Variant Ben Oliver Cover

The “One.” I really like when a DC B cover is the “One.” It lets a lot of people get in on the fun and it usually means it is an amazing cover. This one is great and I love the colors. Going for $20, but seems to have come down to $10. I think it hangs out around $10 this week. The cover A Jones cover is pretty good too.

Conan The Barbarian Vol 4 #2 Cover E Incentive Mark Brooks Variant Cover 1:50

This is an amazing Brooks and should do well long term. Sales are all over from $40-90 with the most recent being $60 I think this stays over ratio, but I don’t think it blows up to 2x ratio. Bins are ~$70+. I think it sits ~$60 give or take. Id grab $40 or less if clean for a flip and up to ratio for PC. Mine is for PC and I payed midtown price so right under $50 shipped, I just hope it is clean when it arrives.

Fantastic Four Vol 6 #6 Cover F Incentive Bill Sienkiewicz Variant Cover 1:50

I really like this cover, but I don’t think I have a chance of finding it for cheap. Last sold was a few days ago for $50 but there are bins currently for as low as $30. I think I’ll wait a few weeks and try to find a deal. I don’t think the aftermarket is after it so I’d try to stay under half ratio. $20 or less is probably a safe bet. I think it sits at half ratio this week.

Marvel Comics Presents Vol 3 #1 Cover E Incentive John Cassaday Variant Cover 1:50

I like this cover for some reason. I don’t think anyone else does though. I can’t find any sold and a few bins listed for half ratio. Skip it unless you like it and find it cheap cheap. This is a great $10 cover imo.

Marvel Tales Venom #1 Cover B Incentive Jen Bartel Virgin Cover 1:50

This book has an $8 cover for a set of reprints. “Reprinting Venom’s return in Amazing Spider-Man (1963) #316, the first appearance of Carnage in Amazing Spider-Man #361 and an action-packed Black Cat story in Spectacular Spider-Man (1976) #119″ The cover is good, but I think this one might be a ghost. I don’t think many shops are going to gamble 50x $8 covers. I can only find one listed and none sold. I doubt it has any value other than scarcity and the good cover. I’d grab it for cheap, like half ratio or less, and hang on to it to see if it ever takes off.

Return Of Wolverine #4 Cover C Incentive Whilce Portacio Variant Cover 1:25

I really like this cover. Homage to that sweet and expensive Platt Wolverine #310. I really hope I can grab one as I’ll never be able to afford the Platt. Only 2 sales today of $15 and $30 but several bins for $13+. I think it doesn’t do much and stays around half ratio which isn’t bad if it is nm+ for PC.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredder In Hell #1 Cover C Incentive Rafael Albuquerque Variant Cover 1:10

This cover is awesome. I can see this one doing really well now and long term. Seems to be selling right over ratio at ~$12-13. I was able to order 2 for PC. I think this is going to be a classic

Cool Covers

Flash Vol 5 #62 Cover B Variant Jae Lee Cover

I’m a Jae Lee fan and I know most probably won’t care for it, but I like this cover. I have Flash on my pull anyway so this is a definite grab.

Edit. Thx Joe Winfree. Cover A has Psyche on the cover.

Hawkman Vol 5 #8 Cover B Variant Bill Sienkiewicz Cover

This is a really good Sienkiewicz, but I don’t like it as much as I think I should. I’m going to pass, but I think I’ll regret it later on.

Suicide Squad Vol 4 #50 Cover B Variant Francesco Mattina Cover

I know he has controversy, but I still grab them.

Supergirl Vol 7 #26 Cover B Variant Stanley Artgerm Lau Cover

Classic Artgerm. Another for the PC.

Fantastic Four Vol 6 #6 Cover D Variant Alex Ross Marvels 25th Anniversary Cover

I loved Marvels when I was a kid. This is a great Ross.

Invaders Vol 3 #1 Cover B Variant Alex Ross Cover

Another awesome Ross. This has a great WWII feel.

Marvel Comics Presents Vol 3 #1 Cover C Variant Adi Granov Hidden Gem Cover

This one is growing on me. I didn’t care for it when I first saw it, but the more I look at it the more I want it.

Red Hood Outlaw #30 Cover B Variant Philip Tan Cover

I think I like it, the blurriness in the background confuses my eyes. I want to see it in person.

White Widow #1 Cover B Variant Jamie Tyndall Red Foil Cover

This book doesn’t do anything for me. It was a kickstarter a few months back and has some buzz, but I’ll pass. Knowing my luck it will blow up so don’t listen to me lol. I will flip thru it at my lcs and see if it grabs me.

Wonder Woman Vol 5 #62 Cover B Variant Matteo Scalera Cover

I don’t like it and I don’t get it. Everyone but me really likes it though and it seems to be poking at going over cover.

Read it

Black Hammer Directors Cut #1 written by Jeff Lemire

If you missed it the first time and don’t want to pay market price for a #1. Great read I highly recommend.

Batman Who Laughs #2 Cover B Variant Ben Oliver Cover. Written by Snyder

Neither cover amazes me, but I’ll probably grab this Oliver.

Black Badge #6 Cover C Variant Julian Totino Tedesco Cover. Written by Matt Kindt

One of the best reads out right now. Get on it.

Avatar Tsuteys Path #1 Cover B Variant Shea Standerfer Cover. Written by Sherri Smith

This seems to be the 1st Avatar book since the 2017 FCBD one. I’m not saying grab it, but maybe if you see it later in a $1 bin. I might grab one to read. He is making a ton of movies and Avatar is the highest grossing movies in history by a large margin. Who knows.

Detective Comics Vol 2 #996 Cover B Variant Brian Stelfreeze Cover. Written by Peter Tomasi

Getting closer to #1k and tec is pull book for sure.

Isola #6 Cover B Variant Jen Bartel Cover (Includes Isola Prologue & Bonus Material One Shot.) Written by Brenden Fletcher & Karl Kerschl

So happy this is back. It really started off well and I hope the break didn’t kill its momentum.

Venom Vol 4 #10 Cover A Regular Ryan Stegman Cover. Written by Donny Cates

Cates has done a good job with Venom in my eyes, but I like his grandiose style.

Knights Of The Golden Sun #3 Written by Mark London

This book is hot, but I don’t know if #3 will be. It is a decent read if you can find a cheap copy. I like the art style.

Evolution #13 Written by James Asmus & Co.

I might be the only one reading this. It is good I swears.

Gideon Falls #10 Cover B Variant Christian Ward Cover. Written by Jeff Lemire

This was on a lot of top 2018 lists. I need to catch up on it.

Middlewest #3 Written by Scottie Young

Young off to a great start.

Scrimshaw Vol 2 #1 Written by Eric Borden

I like Alterna books and for $1.50 how can you not give it a try.

Walk Through Hell #7 Written by Garth Ennis

I need to get on this one. I read the 1st issue and fell off.

Appalachian Apocalypse #1 written by Billy Tucci

This book has a lot of hype and might even flip. I’m wary though and might grab it as a reader.

  • True Believers Conan Queen Of The Black Coast #1 – $1
  • True Believers Conan Curse Of The Golden Skull #1 – $1
  • These Savage Shores #1 Cover C 3rd Ptg Variant Sumit Kumar Cover – Good read if you haven’t grabbed one, get on it.

Bonus look back – how did last week do a week later?

How did last week’s spec end up doing? We take a look at last week’s predictions and see if we did okay one week later!!!

Miles Morales Spider-Man #2 Cover B Incentive Sana Takeda Variant Cover 1:25 – Possible 1st app of new foe? If not it is a great Sana cover. Seems to be selling over ratio at ~$30. I am hearing mixed rumors so far so I’m sheepish and say $15 or less. Tread lightly. $25-35 is really good. I thought it would die after no 1st app.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Vol 2 #1 Cover I Incentive Stanley Artgerm Lau Virgin Cover 1:100 – I’ll stick with the trade dress, but Germ has a following. Most recent was an auction for $36 which can’t be close to avg. I’m sure that was probably an outlier. I wouldn’t go over $50 personally, but I’m super sheepish about these 1:100 virgins when the regular cover is trade dress. Plus I just don’t dig this one. $80-90 is really good. This one is doing much better than I expected.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Vol 2 #1 Cover G Incentive Joe Jusko after Ditko Variant Cover 1:25 – I’m a Jusko fan and I dig this Ditko spin. Most recent was an auction for $10 which is where I think it is a good grab. Seems no one cares about it so only grab for PC. Most recent was today at

Captain Marvel Vol 9 #1 Cover F Incentive Adam Hughes Virgin Variant Cover 1:100 Trade Dress 1:25 – I don’t think I’ll be lucky enough to snag the 1:100 so the 1:25 trade dress will work. The 1:25 was as high as $37 but most recent sales are $20 and $12. I think $15 is about where it will land as I expect there to be tons of these. There were a number of store variants, Hughes is popular, and 1:25 is easy to qualify for is why I’m low on this one. The 1:100 seems to mostly be going for ratio and seems to be the better one flip wise of course. I think $70 or less is safe. Normally I would be even lower but Hughes has a following and it is a pretty good cover. Her neck is a little long though imo, but the colors are popping. Plus light coming from behind is my jam for some reason. 1:100 going for raito is solid and the 1:25 is ~$20 which is better than expected considering they are plentiful. I only got the 1:25, but I’m happy.

Captain Marvel Vol 9 #1 Cover E Incentive Alex Ross Variant Cover 1:50 – I like this Ross cover better than the Hughes but it is close. These should be all over also. Was hitting $70 but most recently around $50 which seems about right. I’d try to grab $30 or less or wait. Ross doesn’t usually flip well. Despite how amazing his covers are they just don’t have the aftermarket that someone like Hughes has. I want one for PC and if you can’t find one for a good price I’d just wait a few weeks. $40-50 is great for this book considering how big the run was.

Man Without Fear #2 Cover C Incentive Greg Smallwood Variant Cover 1:25 – I doubt this does much, but I do like a good skull cover. So far it isn’t doing terrible at $20-25ish. I wouldn’t pay over half ratio. I don’t think anyone cares too much about this one, but a PC grab for me. No one cares and it is going for ~$10. I may have to grab one for that cheap.

Harley Quinn Vol 3 #57 Cover B Variant Julian Totino Tedesco Cover – This is a great cover and it is already hot. Selling as high as $25 is nuts, most recently ~$15-20. Def a flip even when the flood hits it will probably still be $10+. Rumored 1st app of Mirand’R. The “One.” $25-30 is crazy awesome! I only got one but im glad i kept it.

Young Justice Vol 3 #1 Cover F Variant Jorge Jimenez Superboy Cover – “new series that also introduces new heroes Teen Lantern and Jinny Hex!” 2x new characters and dank meme homage, WTH I’ll grab one. The Putri cover has the teen lantern on the cover so that is probably the better one though. This cool cover actually ended up doing well. $10-20 and seems to be the winner cover.

Green Arrow Vol 7 #48 Cover B Variant Neal Adams Cover – I know some folks are jammin on this one. – Cool cover – This one had some heat and seem to get 2x-3x cover.

Wrap Up

There are a few cool covers I’m not crazy about, but that is good. Can’t like everything, but it is good to see what others are jammin on. Most of the time I can see why others like a cover even though I don’t, but that WW has me stumped this time. I had some extra time and added the “written by” in the readers section so let me know what Y’all think about it and if I need to adjust it in anyway. I really like the “One” and hope Y’all can all grab it. Let me know what Y’all are working on this week. Let me know if I miss anything or goofed, it is very appreciated. As always happy hunting and thanks for reading.
