The Wednesday One – 02/21

Welcome to the night before Wednesday One!

Another big week full of speculation. When are we getting the Red Goblin? Who is it going to be? It does get tiring sometimes trying to chase after spec, but at the same time if you don’t take it too seriously it is fun to guess and talk about. This week also brings a lot of cool covers to pick and choose from as well as some great reads. Let’s take a look, maybe there is a “One”.

Ice Cream Man #2 Cover A Regular Martin Morazzo & Chris OHalloran Cover

I wasn’t a believer with issue #1 and I’m still hesitant with issue #2, but might be some money in it like there was with #1.

Venom Vol 3 #162 Cover B Incentive Dave Johnson Poison X Variant Cover

Not sure why, but it is going for $50 presales. Seems if you can get one for $25 or less it should be a good flip. I think if there is nothing special undercutters will drop it down to $35-40. Should be low print run ~800 or less is my guess even with the store variants.

Avengers Vol 6 #681 Cover A Regular Mark Brooks Cover

These are always selling out before release and many grab some heat depending on what happens story wise. 680 is still cover. The great Brooks covers are icing on the cake either way.

Doctor Strange Damnation #1 Cover G Incentive Javier Garron Young Guns Variant

These seem to be plentiful, but they move. I say try to get around cover price. I love how these are basically virgin covers. Also Cates FTW.

Doctor Strange Damnation #1 Cover F 1:50 Incentive Phil Noto Variant

Yes, another Dr. S book. I really like this Noto. I will be hunting for one. Hopefully, they don’t go for big money, but knowing my luck it will be hot for no reason other than Cates. Presales are under $50, but all the listings left are over that. Probably lowish print run.

Cool Covers

Aquaman Vol 6 #33 Cover B Variant Joshua Middleton Cover

This cover is very well done. It isn’t for me, but I really appreciate how good it is.

Batman Vol 3 #41 Cover B Variant Olivier Coipel Cover

Coipel is on a tare with these Bats covers. It is a good read also.

Monstress #14

Sana covers and one of the best reads out right now. Always a win.

Harley Quinn Vol 3 #38 Cover B Variant Frank Cho Cover

This one is good not great to me, but I think that maybe because Cho set the bar really high for himself with his HQ run.

Infinity Countdown Prime #1 Cover D Variant Adi Granov Logan Holds Infinity Cover

I’m grabbing one, but I’m not sure if I like it or not. Too many wrinkles in his coat. I think Granov has been hit or miss lately. What do Y’all think about it? Also, Adam Warlock is back so even as a read I’m in.

Kong On The Planet Of The Apes #4 Cover C Variant Fay Dalton Pulp Subscription Cover

A classic feel and it just works.

Chamber Of Chills Replica Edition #19

A classic book with one of the best covers of all time. Here is your chance to grab a copy for way less than the originals.

Green Lanterns #41 Cover B Variant Brandon Peterson Cover

I’ve been diggin these Peterson covers.

Taarna #1 Cover A Regular Alex Ross Cover

Ross is metal anyway. Match made in heaven with these covers.

Taarna #1 Cover B Variant Alex Ross Cover

I think I like this one better than the A cover.

Trinity Vol 2 #18 Cover B Variant Bill Sienkiewicz Cover

Not sure if I like this Bill or not. I’ll probably grab one anyway.

Mighty Thor Vol 2 #704 Cover B Variant Hulk Smash Cover

I like what Kirkham did with the Hulk, but the cover is okay overall.

Skip it

I didn’t see anything that really seemed “No” which is good.

Read it

Brave And The Bold Batman And Wonder Woman #1

I like the cover and it seems like a cool mini-series. I’ll try one.

Superman Vol 5 #41 Cover B Variant Jonboy Meyers Cover

Always grabbing supes.

Maestros #5

I’m behind, but plan on catching up.

Hit-Girl Vol 2 #1 Cover C Variant Kim Jung Gi Cover

There are too many covers for these new volumes. This cover seems like the best which isn’t saying a lot when you look at the others. I’m going to check it out.

 Evolution #4

I like this read so far.

Amazing Spider-Man Vol 4 #796

Everything I hear says this isn’t a key issue at all though it builds the story. Some are preselling for $15. I see some are going for cover also. I say pay cover and maybe it will flip based on demand, but I wouldn’t bank on it. Really I expect this to drop like a rock. The Ross cover is a win either way and the storyline is hot.

Injustice 2 #20 – Always fun

Batman And The Signal #2 – I haven’t read #1 yet and since it is only 3 I might wait to read all 3 at once.

Batman Sins Of The Father #1 – I like how they are doing this based on the Telltale game series.

Shiver Bureau #1 – I don’t like the cover, but I usually give new Scout titles a shot.

  • Incredible Hulk Vol 4 #713 Cover B Variant John Tyler Christopher Hulk Smash Cover – I am happy to see JTC do a regular cover. It is good, not great imo.
  • Ninjak vs The Valiant Universe #2 Cover E Incentive Joe Eisma Variant Cover and Quantum & Woody Vol 4 #3 Cover E Incentive Dave Johnson Quantum & Woody Icon Variant Cover are the 2 big ratio Valiant books. Flip em if you can.
  • Grimm Fairy Tales Presents Belle Beast Hunter #2 Cover C Meguro – I think I like this cover, but maybe only because the light comes from behind and that is my jam. I feel like Meguro usually does better. This feels too plain. What do Y’all think?

Bonus look back – how did last week do a week later?

How did last week’s spec end up doing? We take a look at last week’s predictions and see if we did OK one week later!!!

(Last week’s spec will be quoted like this. What it really did will look like this.)

X-Men Blue #21 Cover C Incentive Stephanie Hans Poison X Variant 1:50 –  None, they were selling around $100 – Highs around $250 and seems to be closer to $160 now. Great cover and I think it will hold as one of the top covers of the year despite it being another venomized cover.

Stabbity Bunny #2 Cover B Incentive Dwayne Biddix Variant – No spec given, but I was hesitant. – $30 for the variant and $15 for the regular cover is a win. I sold one for $19 and wish I had grabbed a few more.

Star Wars Thrawn #1 Cover D Incentive Francesco Mattina Variant Cover 1:50 – No spec. Presales ~$80 – This seems to have settled around $60, I still want one.

Marvel Two-In-One Vol 3 #3 Cover C Incentive Mike Del Mundo Young Guns Variant – Pre-sales ~$15 so try to get it at or slightly over cover if you want one. These are $10-15

Wrap up

So much going on it is hard to keep up with. There were a few covers I could have added like the Nguyen SS and the JL Jones, but there were so many. There isn’t a “One” this week, but there are books to keep and eye on, and a few to grab if you are lucky. I am looking forward to some good reads. I was sad to hear that Marvel wants to reboot again and it seemed like despite the overall dislike of Legacy at the start it was starting to actually work. I look forward to a great Wednesday and I hope you have a good one also. What are you looking at this week? Did I miss something? Let me know below and as always thanks for reading.
