The Wednesday One 06/20/18

Welcome to the night before Wednesday One! 06/20/18

Another week and I’m going light. I don’t think I can get any of the cool ratio variants, but that is okay. Some good covers, but none to swoon over and only a few reads I’m excited for. I can use a slow week. Is there a “One?”

Tony Stark Iron Man #1 Alex Ross 1:50 trade dress and 1:200 Virgin Variant Cover

I really like this cover, but Ross doesn’t get the flip love. Presales of the 1:50 are all over. $35-60. I think it settles ~$40. try to get at half of the ratio to be safe. The 1:200 is really hard to gage. 2 sales for $200, but they aren’t recent. A few listed. Ross is hard spec and his covers usually go down in a week or 2. I think half ratio is safe and I think they go for a little over that in a week.

Tony Stark Iron Man #1 Cover X Incentive Adi Granov Variant Cover 1:25

A good, not great Granov. Strong presales $20-30. Try to get at half of the ratio or less. This should have a large print run.

Green Lanterns #49 Cover B Variant Warren Louw Cover

Last weeks Louw cover did well and this one sold out online very quickly also. I like his style, but I understand why some don’t. This has a chance to go for 2-3x cover.

Champions (Marvel) Vol 2 #21

There are rumors of the 1st full appearance of Snowguard. I have a few 19’s and 20s to go with 21 for some sets. Marvel does so many new characters, many don’t amount to anything so tread lightly. Maybe a long hold. #19 goes for $10 so keep an eye out in the back issues.

Cool Covers

Aquaman Vol 6 #37 Cover A Regular Stjepan Sejic Cover

People are talking about the Middleton, but I think this cover shouldn’t be overlooked.

Aquaman Vol 6 #37 Cover B Variant Joshua Middleton Cover

Middleton is on a hype high and for a good reason. He is and has been killing it.

Batman Vol 3 #49 Cover B Variant Stanley Artgerm Lau Cover

I really like this cover. I agree Cat’s rump could do with some Cho.

Batwoman Vol 2 #16 Cover B Variant Michael Cho Cover

I like the other Cho, but he doesn’t get much love. He has done some great Batwoman covers and is doing some good Cap covers also.

Harley Quinn Vol 3 #44 Cover B Variant Frank Cho Cover

Classic Cho. These look great on the virginesque B covers.

Barbarella #7 Cover H Incentive Giovanni Timpano Virgin Cover

For some reason that I can’t put my finger on I really like this cover.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 12 The Reckoning #1 Cover A Regular Stephanie Hans Cover

There are some Hans fans that might grab this cover. I like it, but it isn’t on the level of some of her other covers.

Ether Copper Golems #2 Cover B Variant Bill Sienkiewicz Cover

This cover is okay, but I know there are Bill collectors.

Infinity Countdown Black Widow #1 Cover C Variant Bill Sienkiewicz Cover

I’m not loving this cover like many others are. It is good, not great.

Iron Maiden Legacy Of The Beast #5 Cover C Variant Jason Gordner Cover

This is just cool. Devil in the fire. I don’t know that I’ll grab one, but def cool.

Taarna #2 Cover A Regular Luis Royo Cover

I prefer this cover to the B cover, but they are both really good.

Taarna #2 Cover B Variant Chris Achilleos Cover

This homage rocks.

Dark Souls Age Of Fire #2 Cover A Regular Pablo Fernandes Angul Cover

I really like this cover. The colors do it for me.

Fathom Vol 5 #1 Cover C Variant Michael Turner Cover

A little Turner love.

Read it

Black Hammer Age Of Doom #3 Cover B Variant Michael Cho Cover

The BH universe is really good.

Evolution #7

I really like this read and look forward to it. I can see this getting picked up for a tv show.

Amazing Spider-Man Vol 4 #801 Cover C Variant Russell Dauterman Young Guns Cover

The last Dan Slot and many are very happy about it. I’m curious how the current arc ends.

Gideon Falls #4 Cover A Regular Andrea Sorrentino Cover

I hear mixed things about this book. I need to read it still.

Lost City Explorers #1 Cover A Regular Rafael De Latorre & Marcelo Maiolo Cover

Sounds like it might be a fun read. Maybe a Goonies and Stranger Things vibe. Aftershock titles haven’t grabbed heat in a while so I’m only doing a reader copy.

  • Ninja-K #8 Cover E Incentive Juan Jose Ryp Ninjak Icon Variant Cover – High ratio Valiant
  • Shadowman Vol 5 #4 Cover E Incentive Dave Johnson Shadowman Icon Variant Cover – High ratio Valiant
  • True Believers Scott Lang Astonishing Ant-Man #1 – $1
  • True Believers Ant-Man Incredible Shrinking Doom #1 – $1

Bonus look back – how did last week do a week later?

How did last week’s spec end up doing? We take a look at last week’s predictions and see if we did OK one week later!!!

(Last week’s spec will be quoted like this. What it really did will look like this.)

Venom Vol 4 #2 Cover C Incentive Sam Kieth Variant Cover 1:25 – This is the “One” as I think it has a solid chance to flip and maybe catch heat. Presales solid at $20. Seems to be sold out online. I think this one gets some legs and will be a $25-35 book. – Sitting ~$25-35

DuckTales Vol 4 #9 Cover C Incentive Blueprint Character-Focused Variant Cover – Presales are ~$25. Grab for $10 or less to be safe. I hate these. – This is getting ~$20.

Weatherman #1 Cover C Incentive Matteo Scalera Variant Cover 1:25 – I like the story so far, but the art and the font just don’t agree with me. This is the ratio variant that might catch some heat. – Slow rising over the week. From $30-40 to a high of $70! Good flip if you got one.

Marvel Rising Alpha #1 Cover C Incentive Stacy Lee Variant Cover – I’m not swooning for it. Presales $30. Grab for $15 or less to be safe. I think no one cares about it in 2 weeks. – This book is crazy. It went from $30-40 to $100! I’m still not sold and I think it is spec selling to spec. Cover A still goes for the cover price. I didn’t like how they wrote this new character “Emulator.” But time will tell. If you did get one are you keeping it or flipping it?

Thor Vol 5 #1 Cover F Incentive Christian Ward Variant Cover 1:25 – That last Ward Thanos cover sold me on his work and this one is great. I hope I can get it. Heck, it might even flip. – This is getting $15-20

Wrap Up

Another week. No “One” as I just don’t see anything being a home run. I need a light week and I will be happy with a few reads. Nothing is more satisfying to me than a really good read. No doubt I like making a few dollars though. What are you working on this week? Did I miss anything? Let me know below and thanks for reading!
