The Wednesday One 08/22/18

Welcome to the night before Wednesday One! 08/22/18

This week is slow and what it has going flip wise isn’t great.  It is redeemed by some good covers and some hot reads. I have half a mind to sleep in, but I know I’ll be there at opening as usual. Let take a look at this week.

Die Die Die #1 Cover E Incentive Retailer Appreciation Gold Foil Variant Cover

Better late than never. These are pre-selling $30-40. I think it drops during the week to $25-30, but then again that drunk variant stayed hot when I thought it would drop. I think if you can grab it under $20.

Life Of Captain Marvel Vol 2 #2 Cover C Incentive Terry Dodson Variant Cover 1:25

I really like this cover, but I think it won’t do much. Carol is hot right now though. Under $10 might be a grab for me, but I think it sits $10-15 which isn’t great by any means.

Moon Girl And Devil Dinosaur #34

This is gonna be a long hold imo. Should be the 1st full app of Devin. This will pair well with #33. This book was expected so I think it has a higher than normal print run, but that is still small.

West Coast Avengers Vol 3 #1 Cover E Incentive Terry Dodson Variant Cover 1:50

This cover isn’t one of the better Dodson’s this week. I don’t really like anything about this book, but possible 1st app and a new team. I’ll grab one if I see it for cheap, but I won’t be happy about it. Few sales ~$30 I think grab it under $20 to be safe, maybe less.

Cool Covers

Batman Kings Of Fear #1 Cover B Variant Bill Sienkiewicz Cover

This is a great Bill cover and seems to be sold out online. May even grab a lil heat, but I doubt it.

Detective Comics Vol 2 #987 Cover B Variant Mark Brooks Cover

Another great Brooks bats for the PC.

Wonder Woman Vol 5 #53 Cover B Variant Jenny Frison Cover

I like this one much more than the last one, but not loving it for some reason.

Teen Titans Vol 6 #21 Cover B Variant Alex Garner Cover

This is a really good cover and has a great style.

Black Panther Vol 7 #3 Cover A Regular In-Hyuk Lee Cover

This Lee cover is awesome. Lee and BP is a killer combo.

Hunt For Wolverine Mystery In Madripoor #4 Cover C Variant Terry Dodson Spoiler Cover

Another great Dodson this week.

Jim Henson’s Labyrinth Coronation #6 Cover B Variant Sana Takeda Subscription Cover

Sana is just incredible. I really dig her style.

Star Wars Doctor Aphra #23 Cover B Variant Rod Reis Galactic Icon Cover

One of the best Icon covers. I’m grabbing one for my PC.

X-Men Red #7 Cover A Regular Jenny Frison Cover

I like the colors in this cover. This black cover might be tough to find clean.

Shadowman Vol 5 #6 Cover B Variant David Mack Cover

This is a great Mack. I feel it has way more detail than he normally does and it really shines. The color scheme is great.

Read it

Flash Vol 5 #53 Cover B Variant Jonboy Meyers Cover

On my pull and solid. I miss the Mattina covers, that Otto was solid also.

Silencer #8

One of the best of the new DC titles.

Black Hammer Age Of Doom #4 Cover B Variant James Harren Cover

BH is a great world. Good read.

Action Comics Vol 2 #1002 Cover C Variant David Mack Cover

This Mack cover is weird.

Justice League Dark Vol 2 #2 Cover B Variant Greg Capullo & Jonathan Glapion Cover

So far I like it and I’ll grab #2.

Cold Spots #1

Interesting concept. I’m not sure if I’ll grab it. I might flip thru it at the store.

Royal City #14 Cover C Variant Ray Fawkes Cover

I’m sad this is the last Royal City issue. Good read, I’d recommend it when they print a collected book.

Darth Vader Vol 2 #20

Vader is so good. He is a badass and it is great canon.

Zinnober #3

This books has been selling out every issue so far and is hard to find. The first two are still selling over cover so this might even flip.

Venom Vol 4 #5 Cover A Regular Ryan Stegman Cover

Cates is hot and so far this venom run is great. Some issues have been heating up as they sell out.

Wasted Space #4 Cover A Regular Marguerite Sauvage Cover

This got upgraded recently to an ongoing series which is great. Good read so far.

Die Die Die #2

I hear there are 2 different word bubbles this time. I didn’t expect to like the 1st one, but it was good. I’ll give #2 a shot.

Die Die Die #2

Bonus look back – how did last week do a week later?

How did last week’s spec end up doing? We take a look at last week’s predictions and see if we did OK one week later!!!

(Last week’s spec will be quoted like this. What it really did will look like this.)

Justice League Vol 4 #6 Cover C Incentive Jim Lee Pencils Cover 1:100 – I love these Lee pencils and grab them when I can. Some have kept values at half of the ratio which isn’t bad, but not amazing either. No recent sales for this one yet, but an auction is over $50 so far. I think $30 or less is a safe flip as I think most of these sit at half of the ratio around release, but a few are as little as $25 now. I think these are increasing in rarity and have a chance for long-term love.Sales 2x @ $35 and most recently 1x @ $45.

Weatherman #3 Cover C Incentive James Harren Variant Cover 1:25 – I’m surprised this hasn’t sold out online. These variants seemed popular enough for the first 2 issues. After looking at recent sales for any of the 1:25s, unless I missed something it seems like interest has died hard for these. If you see this for cover or right over it might flip. Maybe just ignore it. I didn’t care for it at first, but it has grown on me.Less than a handful of sales, but $25-30.

Infinity Wars #2 Cover E Incentive Yasmine Putri Variant Cover – I like this cover and will try to grab one. This one was selling for over ratio till this afternoon when it dropped to a low of $13.  I think it ends up staying a $10-12 book when the market floods so try to grab it for under that. I think most stores easily get 25 copies. – Mostly selling right over $10, up to $15. The unmasked stole all the thunder.

Aquaman Vol 6 #39 Cover B Variant Joshua Middleton Cover – This one is hot and presales mostly around $10-12, but some way over that. There should be a flood on the market Wednesday, but I think this has staying power at ~$10. This is the “One.” I think if you can grab a few maybe flip half and save half. This cover is sexy and powerful, the more I look at it the more I love it. – Selling $5-10 and the market is flooded with listings. I think in a month or so these dry up and it sits $10-15

Note – Unannounced “Unmasked” variant for the Infinity Wars #2 Cover A Regular Mike Deodato Jr Cover – I figure it is like that unmasked hawkeye avengers cover which was ~1:7-1:10 iirc. – I think this did better than the unmasked and seems to have kept strong heat. Selling $15+ still. I need to sell mine, it is usually too late by now.

REJECTED, THE (SOURCE POINT PRESS) – I didn’t list this one at all – This book is hot $40-50. This will cool off as it is a one-shot.

Wrap Up

No “One” this week, but I’m really looking forward to a few reads like Venom and the last Royal City. I really don’t care if I get any of the flips this week. I know I shouldn’t care if I personally like them, but I do. I know that it does cost me money though. It is something I try to work on. I try to read up and learn about books I don’t care about. They are easier for me to sell as I have no attachment to them, but it is also hard for me to value them properly. What do you think about caring about flip books? Am I way off? Also, let me know if I missed anything and thanks for reading.
