The Wednesday One 09/12/18

Welcome to the night before Wednesday One! 09/12/18

The flips are meh this week, but the sweet covers and a few good reads save the day. Let’s jump in and see what is the haps.

Star Wars Last Jedi Adaptation #6 Cover B Incentive Mike Mayhew Variant Cover 1:25

Small print runs have made these hot and I expect this will be selling over ratio. They might be cooling off though as this is the last issue. I think around half ratio is safe.

Weatherman #4 Cover C Incentive Bengal Variant Cover 1:25

These are getting more rare as the print run inevitably goes down as comics do. But, these don’t really move that much, but if you find one for half ratio I’d try to flip it. I didn’t like this book at first, but I’m warming up to it more each issue.

Low Road West #1 Cover B Incentive David Lafuente Virgin Variant Cover 1:15

These seem to be selling around ratio and I think it stays there give or take a few dollars. I think $10 or under flips.

Cool Covers

Catwoman Vol 5 #3 Cover B Variant Stanley Artgerm Lau Cover

Artgerm is stepping up his game. This is hot.

Detective Comics Vol 2 #988 Cover B Variant Mark Brooks Cover

Brooks doing a great bats is a must grab.

Immortal Men #6

Kirkham did an amazing job on this cover.

Suicide Squad Vol 4 #46 Cover B Variant Francesco Mattina Cover

Mattina usually does such dark covers this is a nice change.

Wonder Woman Vol 5 #54 Cover B Variant Jenny Frison Cover

I love this. Fire swords are my jam.

House Of Whispers #1 Cover B Variant Bill Sienkiewicz Cover

I was going to grab this book anyway, but cover makes it even better.

Amazing Spider-Man Vol 5 #5 Cover C Incentive Daryl Mandryk Marvels Spider-Man Video Game Variant Cover

I’m grabbing all the Spidey game covers.

Darth Vader Vol 2 #21 Cover B Variant Rod Reis Galactic Icon Cover

Hondo!! The greatest pirate in the galaxy.

X-23 Vol 3 #4 Cover A Regular Mike Choi Cover

This cover has a horror feel that is amazing. I love it.

Read it

Mystery Science Theater 3000 #1 Cover B Variant Steve Vance Cover

I read the ashcan and was disappointed. It was giving them backstory I never wanted. Maybe I’ll give it another shot.

Flash Vol 5 #54 Cover B Variant Howard Porter Cover

Neither cover is great, but I have Flash on my pull list.

Superman Vol 6 #3 Cover A Regular Ivan Reis & Joe Prado Cover

I don’t like the variant covers at all (yes even the Hughes), but this one isn’t too shabby. I haven’t been really digging this run so far.

Cemetery Beach #1 Cover C Variant Jason Howard Impact Cover

This cover isn’t amazing, I’m tired of homages all the time though they sell, but I’m excited to read this from the reviews.

Farmhand #3

I know a lot of folks are loving this book. It just isn’t doing it for me.

I hate the name, but it sounds alright. I’m going to flip thru it and see if it grabs me.

Oblivion Song By Kirkman & De Felici #7

The more I read it the more I like it.

Old Man Logan Vol 2 #47

OML going strong.

Venom First Host #3 Cover A Regular Mark Bagley Cover

Venom is hot, but this run is okay.

Weapon H #7 Cover A Regular Philip Tan Cover

This cover is growing on me. I like this book, but it might be dropping off my pulls.

Riptide (Red 5 Comics) #2

#1 got super hot, but I think #2 will be ordered up, plus this is only a 4 issue mini and they cool off quickly. I’m probably wrong, but I’m wary as a flip. I liked the 1st enough to grab #2.

Wasted Space #5 Cover A Regular Marguerite Sauvage Cover

I like this book, but the art isn’t great.

Crowded #2 Cover A Regular Ro Stein & Ted Brandt Cover

The covers for this book are terrible and don’t do the book justice. #1 grabbed me.

Volition #2

This was at least as good as I hoped it was. I can’t wait to read this one.

Blood Realm #1

This just sounds cool and Alterna doesn’t get enough love. I really like their pricing.

Journey Into Mystery Birth Of Krakoa #1 Cover B Variant Ben Caldwell Cover

This just sounds cool. I hope this has an old style.

  • True Believers Marvel Knights 20th Anniversary Daredevil And The Defenders #1 – $1
  • True Believers Marvel Knights 20th Anniversary Jessica Jones Alias By Brian Michael Bendis & Michael Gaydos #1 $1
  • True Believers Marvel Knights 20th Anniversary Luke Cage Hero For Hire #1 – $1

Bonus look back – how did last week do a week later?

How did last week’s spec end up doing? We take a look at last week’s predictions and see if we did OK one week later!!!

(Last week’s spec will be quoted like this. What it really did will look like this.)

Justice League Vol 4 #7 Cover C Incentive Jim Lee Pencils Only Cover 1:100 – These covers are great and probably getting slightly fewer as issue sales slowly decrease. The regular color cover is great also and JL is a good read. Presales $40-50 I think under $35 is safe. These seem to all end up around $50 in the long run. Jim Lee a legend for a reason. – This seems to be like the others ~$50.

Avengers Vol 7 #7 Cover D Incentive Clayton Crain Variant Cover 1:50 – I actually like this Crain cover and with the BC theme, it might get some love. Also rumored origin story. Presales are $40-45, but it seems like undercutting is setting in already as I see a $30 and $40 bin. I think this ends up $25-30 after it floods tomorrow. I think $20 or less to be safe, but if there is something significant in it it might take off. I think stores got books early because of the holiday and we would have heard spoilers by now. – This one seems to be holding ~$40 with some decent movement. Better than I expected which is great.

Cosmic Ghost Rider #3 Cover C Incentive Declan Shalvey Variant Cover 1:25 – Marketed as multiple 1st apps, but it seems like every other Cates book is a 1st app. This is moving on presales and all over the place price wise. Avg is ~$30 and seems to be creeping up. I think $20 and under is safe, but if you see a nm+ copy maybe pay a little more. I think it ends up ~$35 which is great. Heck, the cheapest bin is $40  Dang, I don’t like this book for a one, but it is the “One.” Should be accessible to many. It is hot and seems to be rising. The cover isn’t great imo, but flaming skulls rock. “One” it is. -$25-30 today and it still has a lot of action. Little lower than I expected.

Thanos Legacy #1 Cover G Incentive George Perez Virgin Variant Cover 1:100 – I don’t like this cover at all, but it is the highest ratio variant of the bunch. Pumped hard by Cates, but tread lightly until you hear what the reveal is. Very few presales but seems to be right around ratio. I’m actually amazed it is so high. I expect it to fall to $75ish. I wouldn’t pay over half ratio to be safe. – Very few sold this week and none in the last few days. Seems to be under $100, but hard to say for sure.

Thanos Legacy #1 Cover E Incentive Stonehouse Variant Cover 1:25 – My favorite of the covers, but it probably won’t do as well % gain compared to the others as it will be plentiful. Presales seems to be $15. $10 or under I think is safe. – Sales all over. Just today 2 right over cover and a few recent sales around $15. I think averaging under $10.

Thanos Legacy #1 Cover F Incentive Esad Ribic Variant Cover 1:50 – I think this one will have the better % gain if any of the 3 do, but it isn’t great. Presales seem to be ~$50 which is solid and I think will be the best for flipping of the 3 covers. $30 or under is probably safe. I’d prefer half ratio though in case it floods. This book had a lot of pump. – 2x sales today right over $10 just shocks me. A few days before this it was ~$20. Wow this book died. I don’t get it. For that price, I might have to grab one. I’m not a fan of new group books, but this might heat up

Midnight Task Force #3 – I haven’t read it but the first two heated up for a bit and it has a tiny print run so this one might also. I probably wouldn’t try to flip it though, but others might. – This didn’t do anything.

Wrap Up

Kind of a slow week, but enough to to make the trip worth it. I doubt I will have a chance to grab any of the flips which makes Wednesday more low key for me which is nice. Let me know if I missed anything and what Y’all are looking forward to. I appreciate the responses and as always thanks for reading.
