The Weekend After Wednesday for 11/10/18

Want to know which books from Wednesday’s new deliveries are already heating up and which ones are cooling? Here’s a “Weekend After” list that we hope will help! This isn’t a reflection on the quality, collectability or long-term potential of recently released books. This is based on today’s market price for books that came out on Wednesday, 11/7/18. They could still be at your shop.

HOT

PUNCHLINE #1 (ANTARCTIC PRESS) – Wow, between RAGS and PUNCHLINE, Antarctic Press really owns the market right now.   To be honest, I don’t fully understand why both of these are selling for such high amounts.  Is it low print runs, great story, great art, boobs or maybe all of the above?  (By the way, I absolutely LOVE Matthew Weldon’s art in this). Regardless of the reason, the market is burning up with both of these titles.  I do know that both creators have been very vocal and accessible through social media and patreons. PUNCHLINE writer, Bill Williams, even announced the print runs on his Twitter: Standard Cover @ 2K & Road Trip @ 500.  Not announced on there was the Dragon’s Lair Virgin Variant @ 100 copies.  I actually spoke with the Dragon’s Lair store owner recently and he mentioned that almost half of these were damaged.  Prices are currently: $35 for the Standard, $40 for the variant and $25 for the virgin variant.  There have only been two copies sold on eBay, which sold the day before this was released. Not a single copy has been listed since. I would expect that to go like RAGS #1 virgin did, which was well over $100.  One copy is currently listed at $199.99.  I wouldn’t be surprised if that was gone by the time you read this.  Now, Imagine if either of these ever get picked up for content.  Source Point Press, Antarctic, Scout, etc., this has definitely been the year of the indies.

RAGS #2 (ANTARCTIC PRESS) – RAGS is immensely hot.  This second issue is selling for about $35, while the Silver variant is selling for $40/$45 (down from a height of $103). The crazy part is #1 was JUST starting to slow down.  The virgin variant was coming down to $125 and the standard cover was at about $40/$45. Then this issue comes out and both SOAR back up to every higher prices with the standard cover now selling for $125+ and the virgin variant at $230+ (not to mention a 9.8 that sold for $550).  To quote Gwen Stefani… “this Sh@t is Bananas, B..a..n..a..n..a..s.”  Whatever your feelings are towards these independent titles seeing such insane prices, it’s still pretty amazing to see these writers/ artists/ publishers see such great success.

ROAD OF THE DEAD HIGHWAY TO HELL #1 (IDW) – Being tied to George Romero’s last movie definitely helped bring attention to this book. While the 1:10 is technically selling below expectations, as of right now, it’s still selling at over double ratio @ $25 shipped.  This was legitimately hard to find this week.  We did watch this book closely waiting for it to make some big sales. What is even more notable is how well the standard covers are doing.  The standard A cover is selling for $15 shipped and the B variant is selling for $12 shipped.

TRANSFORMERS LOST LIGHT #25 1:10 RI MILNE VARIANT (IDW) – Selling for $25, all copies on eBay are gone.  This is a great assemble cover that’s “primed” to see some nice price bumps.

WWE #22 1:15 IRON SHEIK RAHZZAH VARIANT (BOOM)– It’s been a while since we’ve seen a WWE variant on the list.  This variant is selling for $27 and is impossible to find in store.  It’s a great cover and pretty much a must buy for WWE fans.

LAST WEEK UPDATE

DAREDEVIL #610 (MARVEL)Missed this one last week.  It was selling for about $12 shipped.  Earlier this week, it did climb a bit to $15 and $20. However, it has since settled to about $9 shipped.

HEX WIVES #1 FRISON “B” VARIANT (DC) – Hex Wives was a bit of a bust this week. It’s now selling for below cover.

ICE CREAM MAN #8 DEL REY VARIANT (IMAGE) – Mr. Creepy Clown has fallen to $10 shipped.

SPIDER-FORCE #1 (OF 3) 1:50 BENJAMIN VARIANT (MARVEL) – This variant hit a height of $140 on the 3rdand has settled to $80, which is where it was last week.  This book will be fine.  Spider-Man high ratio variants tend to hold value long-term.  I would tuck this away.

HOT – THIS TIME LAST YEAR

NOTHING – was hot this time last year.

WARM

STAR WARS HAN SOLO IMPERIAL CADET #1 (OF 5) (MARVEL) – Star Wars books are highly volatile and unpredictable.  When this hit a height of $90, it appeared we had a hot book on our hands.  Then, prices dropped each day.  It currently sits at ratio for $50.  Now, with that said, this is still a scarce book.  Copies could easily dry up and send prices back to where it was.  SOLO #1 1:50 is selling for $80.  So, chances are high that IMPERIAL CADET will see another increase.

COOL

AUNTIE AGATHAS HOME FOR WAYWARD RABBITS #1 (OF 6) (IMAGE)

DEAD RABBIT #2 1:10 O’SULLIVAN VARIANT (IMAGE) – Selling at ratio for an average of $10 shipped.

DEATHSTROKE #37 “B” MATTINA VARIANT (DC) – While this did see some sales at $10 shipped, it’s still very available for cover price (or below in some cases).

DOCTOR WHO 13TH #1 (TITAN)– If I had to answer “what’s the number one book I come across the most in dollar bins”, it’s hands down DOCTOR WHO books. I can never seem to bring myself to research them.   At a quick glance, there don’t seem to be many worth anything notable.  Though, if I were to pick one from this new series, the Heroes Initiative variant would get my vote.

EMPTY MAN #1 (BOOM!)

GREEN LANTERN #1 (DC)– The LCSD variant is pre-selling @ $20.
