The Weekend After Wednesday for 6/29/19
After a brief hiatus due to work events and vacation, Weekend After Wednesday is back! Want to know which books from Wednesday’s new deliveries are already heating up and which ones are cooling? Here’s a “Weekend After” list that we hope will help! This isn’t a reflection on the quality, collectability or long term potential of recently released books. This is based on today’s market price for books that came out on Wednesday, 6/26/19. They could still be at your shop.
CANTO #1 (IDW) – While there was lots of chatter about this book before release, the prices that both the standard and variant were reaching was still a surprise. The standard cover hit a height of $27 but seems to be settling a little lower at $18 shipped. The 1:10 variant hit a height of $90 and has settled to a solid $60/$70. It’s hard to say what this series will do and if prices will see another increase. It’s already sold out at Diamond, so there’s still potential.
MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS #6 (MARVEL) – So, Wolverine’s daughter? I don’t know. Plenty of great Wolverine clones and offspring are relevant today. Does this new one have any long term potential? With the fear of missing out driving sales these days, it’s hard to tell if that is what this is. Regardless, this is selling for a steady $50. Issue #5, which features a cameo of this daughter, is also selling well at $25 shipped. So, this should be a thing for at least a little while.
STAR WARS GALAXY’S EDGE #3 (OF 5) (MARVEL) – This 1:25 variant had one big sale of $60, followed with various sales around $15 to $30. There are only a few listed as auctions and all seem to be moving well. I’m interested to see how those sales end. That will determine where this book goes.
ONE-YEAR LATER UPDATE
BATGIRL #24 MIDDLETON “B” VARIANT (DC) – After Batgirl #23, everyone was on top of this variant last year. It was selling for $13 shipped. It’s held over decently at $10 shipped.
BLOODSTRIKE #23 LIEFELD “THE POUCH” VARIANT (IMAGE) – Last year this was selling for $15 shipped and now sells from $5 to $17 shipped.
CHAMPIONS #19 & #20 CONNECTING 2NDPRINTS (MARVEL) – One year ago, this 2nd print set sold from $30 to $40 shipped. Today, these go for $15.
MOON GIRL AND DEVIL DINOSAUR #32 (MARVEL) – This 1st appearance of PRINCESS FISK went for $13-$16 shipped. Today it sells for $10.
MARVEL #31 HANS VARIANT (MARVEL) – This hard to find variant last year sold for $19 shipped. Today it sells for $12.
TEEN TITANS SPECIAL #1 (DC) – One year ago, we debated Lobo’s Daughter CRUSH making a brief cameo in this book. It sold for $12-$15. As this book is now mostly ignored, it now sells for cover price.
VENOM #3 1:25 MOLINA VARIANT & 1stPRINT (MARVEL) – Knull is still hot one year later. The 1:25 variant sold for $108 last year and sells for $100 today. The first print was selling for $15 and now sells for $35 to $40 shipped.
TRANSFORMERS GHOSTBUSTERS #1 (IDW) – The best-selling cover belongs to the Virgin Clayton Crain cover, limited to 300 copies. These had a $39.99 buy in and are selling for $60. The 1:50 is selling for a tad over ratio at $60. The other variants are selling under ratio and the standard editions are selling for cover price.
ALEXANDRIA OCASIO CORTEZ & FRESHMAN FORCE WHO DIS 2ND PRINT (DEVILS DUE) – The 2nd print can’t match the heat that the 1st print… which has been cooling.
BATMAN DAMNED #3 (OF 3) (DC) – Batman Damned is back! While this isn’t moving, as Ben mentioned in the Top 10, #1 is selling well again.
CROW HACK #1 (IDW) – While these aren’t doing anything, as a Crow fan, I might just have to break down and buy the awesome Brandon Lee “Den of the Damned Comics” variant.
MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #40 (BOOM) – There was a lot of build up and expectation for this issue. With all that heat, these are all selling under ratio. I’m not a Power Ranger expert but after reading the spoilers it seems like the twist is tied deep into the Rangers history and maybe only relevant for the super fans.
SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #1 (MARVEL) – There was some early expectations that the 1:50 Armstrong variant might see some heat. Unfortunately, this one was a bit of a bust as it’s only selling for $20.
WOLVERINE EXIT WOUNDS #1 (MARVEL) – The 1:50 Liefeld variant ranges from a height of $51 and a low of $25. Copies are selling mostly around $30 to $40.
