Wednesday Warriors 5/08/19

Welcome to the NEW Wednesday Warriors!

Each week we will go head to head picking just ONE book in each category in a battle for NCBD supremacy. Best of all, you get to pick the winner! Sound off in the comments if you’re #TeamSimpleman or #TeamBolo and we will recap each week in the following weeks Column.

So its Brian vs. Jack.

Simpleman vs. Bolo.

And there can be only ONE.

Most Looking Forward to Reading Marvel

I can’t get enough of this series. It is always at the top of my reading pile whenever a new issue is released. Love Jason Aaron’s writing and this series is perfect for him.

Sooooooo many First Appearances! Yes , Marvel doubles all retailers orders but I still believe this book will be in demand. Cover A will be available, for how long is the question.

Most Looking Forward to Reading DC

This issue kicks off the year one and new origin story for Barry Allen. This is one of the DC series I’ve stuck with since the Rebirth launch and I’m glad I have. Can’t wait to read this issue.

Big reveal in this issue. No spoilers but I can not wait to get context to the spoilers hitting on line.

Most Looking Forward to Reading Indie

If you haven’t noticed, back issues of this series is scorching hot on the secondary market right now. The reason for it is, It’s that damn good! Ram V as writer and art by Sumit Kumar make a masterful team together and this is a horror fantasy story I never want to end.

Part of Scouts new Binge Comics, this issue will be released as a #1 One Shot with a TPB to follow. This model while new seems intriguing.

Cover Art

This is one of the best Dell’Otto covers I’ve seen in awhile. I’m not a big fan of the trade dress being so large on it but it’s still a gorgeous cover.

This cover really stands out! I love when books get released well timed to theatrical releases. Mysterious will be in high demand and this may be his coolest piece of cover art. Plus hey, first appearance to boot.

Regular Price Variant Marvel

One of Stars Wars most popular characters with only a few minutes of screen time. Plus, Disney is about to launch their streaming service this fall and one of their original shows in Mandalorian. That combined with how great his cover looks has me picking it up.

Ok, so this cover isn’t very attractive and it admittedly doesn’t have the desired characters on the cover, but this book will be in major demand this week and beyond. I’d rather have this cover over no cover.

Regular Price Variant DC

Although the title isn’t super popular, Tedesco creates some beautfiul covers. Issue #10 has an estimated print run of just over 18k. I still believe these DC variants will be sought out as copies start getting stashed away in collections and become less available.

At this point, fire Argerm variants almost seem redundant. But it is important to give this man his due. This has been the best cover run since Adam Hughes in the early 2000’s.

Regular Price Variant Indie

The first print sold out quicker than Knights of the Golden Sun #1. This is a phenomenal series and I think even though sale figures are strong it is staying under the radar a bit in Knights of the Golden Sun’s shadow. A low print run first issue of a spectacular series. I love how the second print is a different cover from the first print.

I am not a big Dark Horse reader, but I have a feeling about this one. Dell Otto doesn’t do many Indie books like this one and it seems to have flown under the radar.

Incentive Variant

Antarctic Press brings back a golden age title and this Dave Dorman variant is gorgeous! Highlighting everything that made golden age comic book covers what they were but with an updated artist’s technique.

While the premise of this book is out there, I am in on this for three reasons : Eastman, Incentive, and Source Point Press ( a small press company with a track record of success)

Top Spec Pick

Although Marvel doubled stores orders of this book minus the retailer variants and that there are store exclusives for it, I can’t ignore the fact of multiple first appearances in this book. Sure some people will prefer to get the 1:50 for scarcity reasons but I like the 1:25 cover more and that’s what I’m picking up.

Brian is right, people will prefer this one for scarcity reasons. Go big ratio or go home Wood.

Sleeper Pick

We get the introduction of a new character in Spider-Bite. Could be nothing, could be the next Spider-Ham type character. Time will tell.

The Tec #1003 reveal from today (no spoilers) will certainly add to the value of Tec #1000 and #1001. #1000 has a huge print run so #1001 may be the go to book and I expect this 2nd Print variant to go under the radar. This is a buy and hold I imagine.

Last Week Look Back

Readers Categories : Year of The Villain and Major X #3 were popular but didn’t do above cover. Batman TMNT III #1 seems like good spec

BOLO 1-0-2

Reg Price Variants:  Lots of nece covers but little moving on the market.

Draw 1-1-1

Cover Art:  While Jack went high ratio and Brian went open order, neither book did well. Jack was below ratio and Brian is at cover.

Draw 0-0-1

Flip Categories: Rough week for the quick flip. The Bartel Avengers was THE pick.

Simpleman 1-0-2

Final: Draw 2-2-6

Ewwww. That was ugly. Let’s call it a draw.  What did you guys think? Who took last week? Who will win this week?  Sound off in the comments!
