So believe it or not, this roughly marks two years now that i’ve been writing columns for CBSI. While that might not seem like a big deal… well, I kind think it is since it’s a pretty short list of things I’ve stuck with for two year.
My first contribution to this website was an article on X-23. With the return of Laura to her own self titled series it seems only fitting that I show you some images of Laura that would arguably make dope covers. Not to worry, an onslaught of exclusives will undoubtedly be offered.
First up is this this image by concept artist Andy Timm. Yeah I know, she’s not Wolverine anymore, but still it’s a dope image and should have been a cover. Even though she’s not Wolverine anymore, it’s still a part of her history now… well until the house that ran out of ideas recons it’s out in a summer crossover cash grab under the guise of fixing continuity… but I digress.
This next image is by artist Romina Moranelli from Italy. According to the artist post, it was for an art challenge of some sort. Pretty sweet rendition and some nice subilies to boot…. and speaking of boots, just look at those boots! If this was an exclusive cover, it would be the one I’d want in my collection regardless if it was rare or not.
Next up is this image by artist Paolo Rivera. You might remember him from that super dope shirtless bear fighter variant cover a while back. Painted in Watercolor and Gouache this was a commission he was paid to do. This image just… Blows my mind. It’s not like Rivera doesn’t work for Marvel already, so how is this not a cover?
Last but not least is this image by artist Dongchen Hou. I spent a considerable amount of time trying to research where this image came from initially, because I wanted to make sure i found the correct artist to credit for it. I’ve seen it pop up on different image hosting boards and wasn’t entirely sure. It’s probably too manga style for some people’s tastes, but still a gorgeous piece.
When I look at a lot of the variant covers out there, it doesn’t make me want to buy the book. I’m sorry, just being honest. I’m not sure what’s really going on out there, but if the name of the game is printing as many variant covers as possible to push up sales, they really need to start finding some fresh talent… it’s not like there isn’t plenty out there.
That’s it for this week, see you next Monday!
