Week 6

This week is some of Batman supporting characters and villains related artwork… I’m still figuring this column out and one of the things I wanted to avoid was just showcasing one characters every week. I also wanted to avoid only using characters from one company in favor of diversity. But it’s January 1st 2018, Christmas was last Monday so consider yourselves lucky you’re getting anything.

It just wouldn’t be winter without a Mister Freeze piece. This one is by Vincent Vernacatola. Like many of the images I feature here, it just jumped out at me. From an endless sea of fan art images in a google search, this one stood alone. I’ve been a big fan of Mr Freeze ever since the Batman Animated series… so don’t be surprised to see more images of Victor Freeze in the future.

The Batman Who Laughs is a red hot character at this point. I found myself just sifting through BWL images one morning and ran across this one by Nat Jones.

Nat’s an artist whose name has been floating around for a while now. Primarily working on variant covers for indy publishers, it’s only a matter of time before his work is on the big two’s radar.

Last but certainly not least for this week is this stunning Barbara Gordon Batgirl by Michael Dooney with colors by Fernanda Rizo. This piece was a print they had done for the C2E2 convention one year.

Something about this cover reminded me a little of the Harley Quinn #30 Frank Cho cover, I think it might be the colors and the moon. Regardless it’s still an awesome image of the Barbara Gordon version of Batgirl. It absolutely defies all rational logic how this image hasn’t graced a cover of a DC Comics Batgirl book.

Well that’s all for this week, see you next Monday, same bat time, same bat channel!
